How do I get free DRF past performances? ›

On the Beyer scale, the top stakes horses in the United States and Canada typically earn numbers in the 100s, while extremely strong performances can rate in the 120s.

What is a good speed index for a race horse? ›

Basically, a speed index is a numerical assessment of how fast a horse ran in relation to the fastest times at a particular racetrack over the past three years. The higher the number, the faster the horse ran. Generally speaking, anything over 90 is excellent, and the 100 plateau is eclipsed by only the top sprinters.

The safest bet you can make is a SHOW bet on the favorite. While it's the most likely to hit, it delivers a small return. If you want to make more money, you need to bet on the more exotic wagers. They include the EXACTA (top two horses in order), the TRIFECTA (top three in order) or the SUPERFECTA (top four in order).

Finding the race record: Once you know your horse's Jockey Club name, you can enter it at Equibase and access the horse's full race record. You'll be able to find sire/dam information, birthdate, race record and earnings, and detailed results of every race that horse ever ran.
